#Paralosvalientes is a campaign that aims to raise from people and companies the 30 million euros needed to build the largest pediatric oncology center in Europe, at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona. The objective is to obtain more cases of cure, minimize sequelae and support the development of research.
A Leo Messi Foundation is one of the great promoters of this campaign. The new SJD Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona will be installed in a building with a built area of 5.137m² and will have the capacity to accommodate 400 patients per year, benefiting children from all over the world who suffer from cancer.
Childhood cancer originates during the formation of organs and tissues, being completely different from cancer in adults. It cannot be avoided, therefore, no screening can be done and its treatments can lead to serious consequences for the patient, in addition to the emotional impact on children and their families.
#Paralosvalientes it is symbolized by painting a couple of lines on the face, as if it were the painting of warriors when they start to fight – an analogy to children fighting cancer.
The gesture of the warrior Leo Messi
In the FC Barcelona-Sevilla match in April 2017, Leo Messi, when scoring his first goal, symbolized the face of two war stripes. The celebration, like almost any gesture by the striker on the field, gained great repercussion in the international media.
